General Paz Partido
General Paz Partido is a partido located in the north-east of Buenos Aires Province in Argentina. The provincial subdivision has a population of about 10,000 inhabitants in an area of 1,197 km, and its capital city is Ranchos, which is located 110 km from Buenos Aires. The Partido is named in honour of Brigadier General José María Paz (1791–1854), a veteran of the Argentine War of Independence.

Altamirano rail disaster
The Altamirano rail disaster occurred in 1964 in Argentina when a passenger train collided head on with a freight train, killing 34. On the morning of February 1, 1964 a diesel-hauled twelve-carriage holiday excursion train left the seaside resort of Mar Del Plata on its 230 mile journey north to the capital, Buenos Aires. It carried 1040 passengers returning home after their summer vacation.
