Ansett Airlines Flight 232

Ansett Airlines Flight 232 was an attempted hijacking of a Fokker Friendship bound for Alice Springs, Northern Territory from Adelaide, South Australia on Wednesday, 15 November 1972. The would-be hijacker died in the incident. About 30 minutes before Flight 232 was due to land, a male passenger produced a gun and said to the flight attendant: "This is a hijack".

Todd River

The Todd River is an ephemeral river in the southern Northern Territory, central Australia. The origins of the Todd River begin in the MacDonnell Ranges, where it flows past the Telegraph Station, almost through the center of Alice Springs, through Heavitree Gap at the southern end of Alice Springs and continuing on for some distance, passing through the western part of the Simpson Desert, as it becomes a tributary of the Hale River, and eventually flowing into Lake Eyre in South Australia.

Old Ghan Heritage Railway and Museum

The Old Ghan Heritage Railway and Museum is a railway museum in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, with a tourist railway attached. It is operated by the Road Transport Historical Society, which also operates the adjacent National Road Transport Hall of Fame. The museum contains narrow gauge equipment from the original Central Australian Railway which operated to Alice Springs from 1929 to c1980 until replaced by a flood-free standard gauge line.

Heavitree Gap

The Heavitree Gap, or Ntaripe in the Arrernte language, is a gap in the MacDonnell Ranges of Central Australia. It is the southern entrance to the city of Alice Springs and in addition to the Todd River it carries the main road and rail access to the South. The Gap was an important sacred site for the Arrernte people and its use as a thoroughfare was avoided prior to the construction of the road and later rail link.
