Bakers Creek air crash

The Bakers Creek air crash was an aviation disaster which occurred on 14 June 1943, when a United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress aircraft crashed at Bakers Creek, Queensland. The aircraft took off from Mackay and crashed approximately 8 kilometres south of the airfield. Forty of the 41 military service personnel on board were killed.

Bakers Creek, Queensland

Bakers Creek is a small town in Queensland, approximately 8 kilometres south of Mackay on the Bruce Highway. Its main industry is a large meat processing plant operated by Thomas Borthwick & Sons (Aust) Pty Ltd. The Bakers Creek watercourse runs through the township. At the 2006 census, Bakers Creek had a population of 770. In 1943, a USAAF aircraft crashed in the locality, killing 40 of the 41 people on board. The crash is Australia's worst aviation disaster by death toll.

Mackay railway station

Mackay is a railway station on the North Coast railway line in Queensland, Australia. The station is serviced four times a week by the Diesel Tilt Train service between Brisbane and Cairns, as well as daily by The Sunlander service.

Sarina State High School

Sarina State High School is located in the small rural town of Sarina, Queensland, Australia. The school had 600 students in 2007 with a reported 20 percent continuing studies at University. The school runs a community based literacy intervention program to assist students in all years with literacy and numeracy. Sarina State High now also boasts a marine aquarium, where there is a reef tank, freshwater tank and an estuine tank.

Sarina, Queensland

Sarina is a town in north Queensland, Australia. It is 34 kilometres south of the city of Mackay, and approximately 300 kilometres north of the city of Rockhampton. At the 2006 census, Sarina had a population of 3,285. Sarina lies just inland of the coast on the Bruce Highway. Industries include sugar cane growing and milling, cattle grazing and agriculture. It is a major supplier of ethanol through the CSR Limited distillery attached to CSR's Plane Creek sugar mill.
