Geeveston, Tasmania

Geeveston is a small Australian town located in the south of Tasmania on the Huon River, 62 km south west of Hobart, making it Australia's most southerly administrative centre. The town takes its name from William Geeves, an English settler who was given a land grant by Lady Jane Franklin in the area then known as Lightwood Bottom (after a type of timber prevalent in the area). The settlement Geeves set up was renamed Geeves Town in 1861, and the name eventually became Geeveston.

Cradoc, Tasmania

Cradoc (Australian postcode 7109) is a small township on the eastern side of the Huon River south of Huonville, Tasmania. At the 2006 census, Cradoc had a population of 743. In 1792 Rear Admiral Antoine Raymond Joseph de Bruni D’Entrecasteaux was a French navigator, commissioned to search for La Perouse’s lost expedition, and explore our southern coastline. La Perouse had sailed from Botany Bay in 1788 and disappeared.

St James College, Tasmania

St James Catholic College is a school in Cygnet, south of Hobart, Tasmania. It is a co-educational school from kindergarten to Grade 10. in 1896 in response to the desire for Catholic education in the Cygnet area, the Sisters of St Joseph founded St Mary’s Convent School. In 1944, Lourdes Hill Agricultural College was founded by the Christian Brothers to provide secondary schooling for boys. During this time, the boys from Grade 4 were taught by the Brothers at Lourdes Hill.
