Lapoinya (pronounced La-porn-ya) is a small agricultural centre on the north-west coast of Tasmania west of Wynyard. The name is Tasmanian aboriginal word for "fern tree", a plant that abounds in those surviving untouched parts of the original temperate rainforest.
