Moliagul, Victoria
Moliagul is a small township in Victoria, Australia, 202 kilometres north west of Melbourne, (60 kilometres west of Bendigo) notable for the discovery of the world's largest gold nugget, the Welcome Stranger in 1869. The area is a historical gold mining town and is now mostly deserted. In 1855 it is estimated there were 16,000 people living in Moliagul during the peak of the Victorian gold rush period. Moliagul Post Office opened on 15 November 1858 and closed in 1971.

The Welcome Stranger is the largest alluvial gold nugget found, which had a calculated refined weight of 3,123 oz 6 dwts 9 gr (71.018 kg). It measured 61 by 31 cm (by in) and was discovered by Cornish prospectors John Deason and Richard Oates on 5 February 1869 at Moliagul, Victoria, Australia, about 9 miles (5.6 kilometers) north-west of Dunolly.

The Maryborough-Dunolly Box-Ironbark Region includes all the Box-Ironbark forest and woodland remnants used as winter feeding habitat by Swift Parrots in the Maryborough-Dunolly region of central Victoria, south-eastern Australia. The 900 km region was identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) and includes several nature reserves, state parks and state forests, with only a few small blocks of private land.

The town is located in the Central Goldfields Shire local government area, 207 kilometres north west of the state capital, Victoria and 74 kilometres from the regional city of Bendigo. It is part of Victoria's 'Golden Triangle,' which contains some of the world's richest gold fields. Some of the gold nuggets found in these fields include the Welcome Stranger, Hand of Faith, and the Blanche Barkly. The Viscount Canterbury, Viscountess Canterbury and Precious were all found in the gold field at Rheola.
