Oxley, Victoria

Oxley is a town in Victoria, Australia, located on Snow Road, 13 kilometres south-east of Wangaratta, in the Rural City of Wangaratta. At the 2006 census, Oxley had a population of 289. Oxley derives its name from the Oxley Plains, which were named in 1824 by the explorers Hume and Hovell after John Oxley, the Surveyor-General of New South Wales. Oxley Post Office opened on 1 January 1870. An earlier office named Oxley became Milawa.

Milawa, Victoria

Milawa is a town in Victoria, Australia, located on Snow Road, 18 kilometres south-east of Wangaratta, in the Rural City of Wangaratta. At the 2006 census, Milawa and the surrounding area had a population of 543. Milawa is the hub of the Milawa Gourmet Region which offers a wide range of produce. The town is the home to the Brown Brothers vineyards, which have operated in the town since 1889. Milawa is also home to the Milawa Cheese Company and Milawa Mustards.

The City of Wangaratta was a local government area located about 260 kilometres northeast of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of 25.53 square kilometres, and existed from 1863 until 1994. It was responsible for the urban area of Wangaratta.

The Rural City of Wangaratta is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the north-east of the state. It has an area of 3,764 square kilometres. In 2001 it had a population of 26,000, of which 8.6% were born overseas. It was formed in 1994 from the merger of the City of Wangaratta, Shire of Wangaratta, Shire of Oxley and parts of the Shire of Beechworth, Shire of Benalla and Shire of Yarrawonga.

Wangaratta

Wangaratta is a cathedral city of almost 17,000 people in the northeast of Victoria, Australia, about 230 km from Melbourne along the Hume Highway, with Benalla 45 km to the southwest, and Albury-Wodonga 72 km to the northeast. It is located at the junction of the Ovens and King rivers which flow from the Victorian Alps.
