Shire of Yarriambiack

The Shire of Yarriambiack is a local government area of Victoria, Australia in the north-west of the state. It includes the towns of Hopetoun, Murtoa and Warracknabeal. It has an area of 7,176 square kilometres. In 2006 it had a population of 7,520. It was formed in 1995 from the merger of the Shire of Warracknabeal, Shire of Karkarooc, and parts of the Shire of Dunmunkle and Shire of Wimmera.

Warracknabeal

Warracknabeal is a wheatbelt town in the Australian state of Victoria. Situated on the banks of the Yarriambiack Creek, 330 km north-west of Melbourne, it is the business and services centre of the northern Wimmera and southern Mallee districts, and hosts local government offices of the Shire of Yarriambiack. At the 2006 census Waracknabeal had a population of 2490.

Shire of Warracknabeal

The Shire of Warracknabeal was a local government area about 200 kilometres west-northwest of Bendigo and 60 kilometres north of Horsham in western Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of 1,839 square kilometres, and existed from 1891 until 1995.

Yarriambiack Creek

Yarriambiack Creek, a distributary of the Wimmera River, leaves the river near Drung Drung, about 20 kilometres east of Horsham, and flows northwards about 140 kilometres through Warracknabeal, ending in Lake Coorong just east of Hopetoun. Its flow is intermittent and depends almost entirely on the level of the Wimmera River. After not flowing for most of the previous 15 years, it flooded in September 2010 and January 2011. In 2012 the Wimmera River had a water release.
