Kendenup, Western Australia

Kendenup is a small town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, within the Shire of Plantagenet. It is 345 kilometres south east of Perth and 22 kilometres north of Mount Barker. The Great Southern Railway (established 1889) passes through the town, being one of the original stations on the line. At the 2006 census, Kendenup had a population of 1,290.

Shire of Plantagenet

The Shire of Plantagenet is a local government area in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, managed from the town of Mount Barker, 360 kilometres south of Perth and 50 kilometres north of Albany. The shire covers an area of 4,792 square kilometres and includes the communities of Narrikup, Rocky Gully, Kendenup and Porongurup. The region is noted for agriculture, principally wheat, sheep (wool and meat), beef cattle, wine, canola and olives.

Mount Barker, Western Australia

Mount Barker is a town on the Albany Highway and is the administrative centre of the Shire of Plantagenet in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. At the 2011 census, Mount Barker had a population of 2,761. The town was named after the nearby hill, which it is believed was named by Dr T B Wilson RN, in honour of Captain Collet Barker.

Tenterden, Western Australia

Tenterden is a town located 328 km south-east of Perth in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The townsite is located on one of the sidings on the Great Southern Railway line. The siding was established in 1891 and shortly afterward the government made land available for agricultural purposes in the area. The town was gazetted in 1893 and is named after a town in Kent.

Gibraltar Rock (Western Australia)

Gibraltar Rock is a granite outcrop south of Perth in Western Australia, and is in the Porongurup National Park. From the rock, which is 2,100 feet high, Albany and the Great Southern Ocean can be seen. Since the 1970s, the Rock, along with some other local peaks, has become a popular venue for rock climbers.
