Dampier, Western Australia

Dampier is a major industrial port in the northwest of Western Australia. The Dampier Port is part of the Dampier Archipelago. The port services petrochemical, salt, iron ore and natural gas export industries. Rio Tinto exports large volumes of iron ore through the port, and in September 2010 announced plans to expand capacity. At the 2006 census, Dampier had a population of 1,370.

Dampier Saltworks Important Bird Area

The Dampier Saltworks Important Bird Area is a 52 km saltern lying close to the town of Dampier, an industrial port in the Pilbara region of north-west Western Australia. The salt processing facility is operated by Dampier Salt Ltd, part of the Rio Tinto Group.

Murujuga

Murujuga, usually known as the Burrup Peninsula, is a peninsula in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, adjoining the Dampier Archipelago and near the town of Dampier. (The region is sometimes confused with the Dampier Peninsula, 800 km to the north-east. ) In Ngayarda languages, including that of the indigenous people of the peninsula, the Jaburara people, murujuga means "hip bone sticking out".
