Stoomcentrum Maldegem

Stoomcentrum Maldegem (SCM), literally Maldegem Steam Centre, is a heritage railway located at Maldegem in northern Belgium. It is located at the former NMBS station. Standard gauge trains run on the line to Eeklo, where the SCM has its own station. A 600 mm gauge line runs to Donk on the former line to Bruges; this was supplemented by the standard gauge line in 1989, but this has since become disused.

Battle of Beverhoutsveld

The Battle of Beverhoutsveld took place on 3 May 1382, on a field situated between the towns of Beernem, Oostkamp and Assebroek. It marked an important phase in the rebellion of Ghent against count Louis II of Flanders. This battle was initiated when the city of Ghent had rebelled against their lord, count Louis II of Flanders, in 1379. The powerful guilds in Ghent did not take kindly to his rule, and wanted more privileges and less interference from the count.
