Flemish Ardennes

The Flemish Ardennes is an informal name given to a hilly region in the south of the province of East Flanders, Belgium. The area is distinct from the Ardennes, which is situated further to the south in Wallonia, France and Luxembourg. Among the largest towns in the area are Oudenaarde, Ronse and Zottegem.

Brakel

Brakel is a municipality in the Belgian province of East Flanders in the Denderstreek and the Flemish Ardennes. The name is derived from a Carolingian villa Braglo first mentioned in 866 and located in the center of Opbrakel. Since 1970, the municipality has comprised the villages of Nederbrakel, Opbrakel, Michelbeke, Elst, Zegelsem. In 1977 Everbeek, Parike and part of Sint-Maria-Oudenhove were added. On January 1, 2006 Brakel had a population of 13,726.

Nederbrakel

Nederbrakel is a village in the municipality of Brakel. It is located in the Denderstreek and in the Flemish Ardennes, the hilly southern part of the province of East-Flanders, Belgium. With 6500 residents, it forms the largest individual part of the municipality.

Koppenberg

Koppenberg (literally "Heads Mountain") is a 77 m high hill in Oudenaarde, the Flemish Ardennes, Belgium. "Koppen" is an abbreviation for cobblestones which in Dutch slang language are called kinderkoppen, or "children's heads". This climb is part of the route of the Ronde van Vlaanderen professional cycling race and feared by many because of its steepness (22% on the trickiest parts) and because of its cobblestones. This makes the Koppenberg difficult even for top professionals.

Oudenaarde Town Hall

The Town Hall of Oudenaarde, Belgium was built by architect Hendrik van Pede in 1526-1537 to replace the medieval Schepenhuis (Aldermen's House) that occupied the same site. Another older structure, the 14th-century Cloth Hall, was retained and now forms a sort of extension at the back of the Town Hall proper.
