Watervliet (Belgium)

Watervliet is a village in the Belgian province of East Flanders and the suburbs of the town of Sint-Laureins. Watervliet is part of the Meetjesland, and is adjacent to the Dutch border. It was a separate municipality until the end of 1976. Watervliet has an area of 21.08 km² and had 1,644 inhabitants on 1 January 2008. The lordship of Watervliet was awarded to Hieronymus Lauweryn van Watervliet, of common origins, by Philip the Handsome in 1507.

Waterlandkerkje is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is located in the municipality of Sluis. Waterlandkerkje was a separate municipality until 1970, when it was merged with Oostburg.

IJzendijke

IJzendijke is a city in the municipality of Sluis, about 10 km east of Oostburg, in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Its population is 1,780 (as of 2001). The town received city rights in 1303. IJzendijke was a separate municipality until 1970. Prior to 2003-01-01, the city was in the municipality of Oostburg.

Leopold Canal (Belgium)

The Leopold Canal is a canal in northern Belgium. Construction occurred between 1847 and 1850 after the Belgian government granted permission in 1846. It runs about 40 km westward from Boekhoute to Heist-aan-Zee just south of the Dutch border. It is between 1.2 and 2.3 m deep. The canal was proposed by Canon Andries to prevent the Dutch from blocking the discharge of water and inundating the Meetjesland after Belgium's independence from the Netherlands.
