Uriondo

Uriondo is a town in the Bolivian Tarija Department. Uriondo is the administrative center of José María Avilés Province and is located at an elevation of 1,709 m on the confluence of Río Rochero and Río Camacho, 25 km south of Tarija, the department capital. Uriondo has a population of circa 2,500 inhabitants.

Battle of la Tablada de Tolomosa

The Battle of la Tablada de Tolomosa was fought on 15 April 1817 near the town of Tarija in Southern Bolivia between the royalist forces under colonel Mateo Ramírez and independentist local forces under Eustaquio Méndez allied with the Army of the North under Gregorio Aráoz de Lamadrid. The principal caudillos directing the militias were Méndez, José María Avilés and colonel Francisco Pérez de Uriondo, one of the Tarijan's commanders allied with General Güemes' guerrillas.
