Ratiaria

Ratiaria was a city founded by Moesi, a Daco-Thracian tribe, in 4th century BC, along the river Danube. The city had a gold mine in the vicinity, which was exploited by the Thracians. It is located 2 km west of present village Archar in Vidin Province, northwestern Bulgaria. The closest modern cities are Vidin (27 km. to the north west) and Lom (28 km. to the east).

Dimovo

Dimovo is a town in northwestern Bulgaria, part of Vidin Province. It is the administrative centre of the homonymous Dimovo Municipality, which lies in the eastern part of Vidin Province, 30 kilometres from Vidin at the Danube and 50 kilometres from Bregovo at the Timok River and the Serbian border. As of December 2009, Dimovo has a population of 1,211 inhabitants. The town is located in the western Danubian Plain.

Lom (river)

The Lom is a river in northwestern Bulgaria, a right tributary of the Danube flowing into it 1 km east of the town of Lom. The river takes its source from the foot of Midzhur (2,168 m), the highest peak of western Stara Planina, on the Bulgarian-Serbian border, and mainly flows northeast until its upper course, where it heads north.

Archar River

The Archar or Archaritsa is a river in the western Danubian Plain of northern Bulgaria and a right tributary of the Danube. It originates in the western Balkan Mountains and is around 60 kilometres in length, with a drainage basin of 364 square kilometres. The river runs through limestone terrain and has steep banks, in certain sections up to 100 metres high. The Archar flows into the Danube at the large village of Archar in Dimovo municipality, Vidin Province.
