São Miguel, Cape Verde

São Miguel is a municipality located in the northeastern part of the island of Santiago in Sotavento in southcentral Cape Verde. The municipal population is around 16,104, the area is 91 km² and the density is about 176/km². São Miguel is located about 60 km NNW of Cape Verde's capital Praia, SE of Tarrafal and N of Assomada and Picos. São Miguel is linked with a highway linking Tarrafal and Praia and a mountain road to the Tarrafal–Assomada Route which also links to Assomada and Picos.

Tarrafal camp

Tarrafal (also known as Campo da Morte Lenta, the "Camp of the Slow Death") was a prison camp in the Portuguese colony of Cape Verde, set up by the dictator António de Oliveira Salazar after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War (1936), where opponents of his right-wing authoritarian regime were sent. Cape Verde

Cape Verde Listen/ˌkeɪp ˈvɜrd/, officially the Republic of Cape Verde, is an island country, spanning an archipelago of 10 islands located in the central Atlantic Ocean, 570 kilometres (350 miles) off the coast of Western Africa. The islands, covering a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres, are of volcanic origin and while three of them are fairly flat, sandy and dry, the remaining ones are generally rockier and have more vegetation.
