Battle of Nanchang

The Battle of Nanchang; traditional Chinese: 南昌會戰, was a major battle between the Chinese National Revolutionary Army and the Japanese Imperial Japanese Army in the Second Sino-Japanese War. It was the first major conflict to occur following the Chinese defeat at the Battle of Wuhan. After the Battle of Wuhan, Wuhan was the base of the 11th Army of the Imperial Japanese Army, and was surrounded by the 5th and 9th Military Regions of the National Revolutionary Army.

Battle of Xiushui River

The Battle of Xiushui River was fought in March 1939 as part of the Battle of Nanchang, northeast of Nanchang, China. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, Japanese artillery forces marched a long distance into the vast area of continental China. They were much troubled by bad roads. To lighten the burden on transport, many regiments replaced their artillery with mountain guns. Most fights in China were pursuit battles; large artillery battles seldom happened.

Bayi Square

Bayi Square in Nanchang was built during August 1, 1977 to January 8, 1979, in memory of Nanchang Uprising (aka. August 1st 1927 Uprising). The size of this square is 78,000 m² now after a reconstruction taking place beginning in 2002. Since the day it was finished, it has always been the second largest square in China, after Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Ever since it was constructed, this square became a main site for most big-scale ceremonies and marches.
