Zhoushan Island

Zhoushan Island is the principal island of the namesake archipelago Zhoushan Islands, administered by Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, the People's Republic of China. Its name means "Boat Mountain", in reference to its shape. It is the province's largest island, and third largest in mainland China. The island is the district seats of both Dinghai and Putuo.

Xihoumen Bridge

The Xihoumen Bridge is a suspension bridge built on the Zhoushan Archipelago, the largest offshore island group in China. The main span was completed in December 2007. The entire bridge, along with Jintang Bridge, was opened to traffic on a test basis on 25 December 2009. It is the second-longest suspension bridge ranked by the length of the centre span. The opening date was put off because of a ship collision on 16 November 2009 that slightly damaged the side of Jintang Bridge.

Dinghai District

 Dinghai is a district of Zhoushan City made of 128 islands in Zhejiang province, China. It is based on the larger northwestern half of Zhoushan Island, where it borders Putuo in the east. The district boundary meets that of Daishan County entirely on sea to the north. Its southwestern boundary intersects those of Ningpo City entirely on sea.

Daishan County

 Daishan is a county under the jurisdiction of Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province. It covers a land area of 326 sq. kilometers and has a population of 200,000. The postal code is 316200, and the county seat is located on 88 Renmin Rd. in Gaoting Town. The county is located in East China Sea in northeast Zhejiang. It comprises a series of islands with Daishan Island forming the main part of the county. Daishan Island has a fishing port, and shipbuilding and ship refitting facilities.

Capture of Chusan

The first capture of Chusan by British forces in China occurred on 5–6 July 1840 during the First Opium War. The British captured Chusan, the largest island of an archipelago of that name.
