Interesting facts about this location

Vivodina

Vivodina is a village in Croatia, Karlovac County. It is first mentioned on September 22, 1321. The village is well known for a long winery tradition and that both parents of NBA Hall of Famer George Mikan descends from Vivodina near Bubnjarci. Here was born Ivan Rupert Gusić, writer and the first Kajkavian translator of the Holy Gospels.

Sošice

Sošice is a naselje (settlement) in the municipality of Žumberak, Zagreb County, Croatia. According to the 2001 census, it has 99 inhabitants. The town was an important settlement of the Greek Catholic Church in Croatia. The local parish was formed c. 1746. The parish home was burnt down along with the local school in 1942 by Yugoslav Partisans. Jazovka, a pit which contained a mass grave from World War II, is located near the settlement.

Jazovka

Jazovka is a pit in the Žumberak area of Croatia where the bodies of approximately 500 Croatian soldiers and civilians were dumped during and after the Second World War. The first victims were fascist Ustasha Croat soldiers captured by Partisan forces in 1942 in the vicinity of Krašić. Although locally known, the pit was rediscovered in 1990, after the fall of communism in Croatia. A pilgrimage to the site is held annually on June 22, coinciding with the Anti-Fascist Struggle Day.

Žumberak, Zagreb County

Žumberak is a village and a municipality in Croatia in the Zagreb County. According to the 2001 census, there are 1,185 inhabitants, 95% which are Croats. Žumberak municipality covers an area of 110 km .

Žumberak

Žumberak or Gorjanci is a range of mountains or hills between Croatia and Slovenia. The highest peak is Sveta Gera (Trdinov vrh) on the border between Croatia and Slovenia, being 1,181 m tall. Near the peak, there is a 90 meter high telecommunications tower of the Radio-Television Slovenia. Since 1999, a nature park (Park prirode) Žumberak - Samoborsko gorje covers the area of the mountain on the Croatian side.
