Milíře (Tachov District)

See other places named Milíře. Milíře is a village in the Czech Republik, in the region of Plzeň, near the town of Tachov. The first written document mentioning Milíře comes from 1669. The church of Miliře was built in 1814. In 1946 most German-speaking inhabitants, the majority in the village and the Tachov area, were expelled. After the war, the area was only partly repopulated.

Battle of Tachov

The Battle of Tachov (German: Schlacht bei Tachau) or Battle of Mies (German: Schlacht bei Mies) was a battle fought on 4 August 1427 near the Bohemian towns of Tachov (Tachau) and Stříbro (Mies). It was part of the Hussite Wars, and it was the first battle in which war wagons were used by the crusaders. The battle showed that the Wagenburg could not be used successfully by just any army. It took an army that knew how to use the wagons to make them successful.

Flossenbürg concentration camp

Konzentrationslager Flossenbürg was a Nazi concentration camp built in May 1938 by the Schutzstaffel (SS) Economic-Administrative Main Office at Flossenbürg, in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria, Germany, near the border with Czechoslovakia. Until its liberation in April 1945, more than 96,000 prisoners passed through the camp. About 30,000 died there.
