Týniště (Plzeň-South District)

Týniště is a small municipality (56 inhabitants in 2006, compared to 175 inhabitants in 1880)which is located in the Pilsen Region 36 kilometres (23 miles) to the south of the city of Pilsen 530 metres (1,720') above sea level on the regional route 230 . Until 1990 a part of the Horšice municipality. The village was firstly mentioned in 1379. In the 16th century it was known as Pustá ("empty" or "deserted").

Zelená Hora

Zelená Hora ("Green Mountain") is a castle on the south side of Nepomuk, in the Czech Republic. The church has been a pilgrimage site since the 1700s. In 1819 Václav Hanka's forged medieval Manuscript of Zelená Hora, a counterpart to his Manuscript of Dvůr Kralové, was allegedly discovered in the castle and not exposed as a literary hoax, by Atheneum, until 1886.

Air battle over Merklín

The Air battle over Merklín was an air-to-air engagement between Czechoslovak air forces and USAAF over the Czech village of Merklín, in the Bohemian Forest, on 10 March 1953. During the action Czech pilot Jaroslav Šrámek, flying a MiG-15, shot down an American F-84, which fell 35 miles inside the German border. The American pilot, Lt. Warren G. Brown, bailed out safely over German territory.

Nebílovy Castle

Nebílovy Castle is situated about 16 km south of Plzeň, in west Bohemia, Czech Republic. Older renaissance manor was rebuilt into a baroque by architect and builder Jakub Auguston, probably according to the project of imperial architect J. L. Hildebrandt. Nebílovy castle consists of two buildings facing each other which used to be connected by arcade corridors and terraces along their sides. The castle was repaired by V. Haberditz and J. L. Palliardi in 18th century.
