Fur (island)

Fur (alternative older spelling Fuur) is a small Danish island in the Limfjord at the northern tip of the Salling peninsula. Fur has under 900 inhabitants. The island covers an area of 22 km². It is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:56|49|N|09|01|E||| | |name= }}. The island is linked to the mainland through a 24 hour ferry, the Sleipner-Fur ferry, sailing from Branden. The crossing of the Fursund takes 3–4 minutes.

Fur Museum

The Fur Museum is a small natural history museum located in the village of Nederby, not far from the ferry port, in the south of the island Fur, Denmark. The museum combines exhibitions on the natural history, geology and environment of the island with an exploration of its cultural and social history.

Fur Formation

The Fur Formation is a marine geological formation of Ypresian (Lower Eocene Epoch, c. 56.0-54.5 Ma) age which crops out in the Limfjord region of Denmark from Silstrup via Mors and Fur (island) to Ertebølle, and can be seen in many cliffs and quarries in the area. The Diatomite Cliffs (moler in Danish) is on the Danish list of tentative candidates for World Heritage and may become a world Heritage site.

Livø

Livø is a 320-acre Danish island with approximately 10 year-round residents. The island is located in the Limfjord, about 20 minutes by boat from Roenbjerg in the middle of the Limfjord. It is midway between Nykøbing Mors, Løgstør, Fjerritslev and Thisted. Northeast of the island lies Løgstør Bredning while Livø Broads lies west and south of the island.

Sundsøre Municipality

Until January 1, 2007 Sundsøre municipality was a municipality in the former Viborg County on the Salling Peninsula, a part of the larger Jutland peninsula in northwest Denmark. The municipality included the island of Fur, and covered an area of 171 km². It had a total population of 6,464 (2005). Its last mayor is Flemming Eskildsen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Breum.
