Chalatenango is a department of El Salvador, located in the northwest of the country. The capital is the city of Chalatenango. The Chalatenango Department encompasses 2,017 km² and contains more than 220,000 inhabitants. Las Matras Archaeological Ruins contains the relics of prehistoric populations and caves in which rock writing is found. Aguilares is a municipality in the San Salvador department of El Salvador, located 33 km away from the city of San Salvador. The municipality measures 33.72 km² and as of 2006, had an estimated population of 73,300. Sugar cane cultivation is the major economic activity for the area. The municipality is divided into five administrative divisions, called cantones: Florida, Las Tunas, Pinalitos, Pishishapa, and Los Mangos.

Estadio José Gregorio Martínez

Estadio José Gregorio Martínez is a multi-use stadium in Chalatenango, El Salvador. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of C.D. Chalatenango. The stadium holds 15,000 people. The stadium was named after José Gregorio Martínez in 1988. A few matches in 2009 will be the host stadium for Nejapa F.C.
