Battle of Gur Amba

The Battle of Gur Amba was fought on 27 September 1852 between the forces of the Ethiopian regent, Ras Ali II, and the rebel forces of Kassa Hailu. Kassa was victorious, and Goshu Zewde of Gojjam, the commander of the regent's forces, was killed. This was the first of a series of four victories which led to Kassa becoming Emperor Tewodros II of Ethiopia. This battle followed three years of peace between Kassa and Ras Ali, which ended in 1852 when Kassa refused to respond to Ras summons.

Magech River

The Magech River is a river of Ethiopia. It rises just of the city of Gondar, and flows south into Lake Tana at the latitude and longitude of {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:12|16|10|N|37|23|50|E| |primary |name= }}. Its tributaries include the Dmaza, the Lesser Angereb, and the Ahyamezoriya.

Kemekem

Kemekem (also known as Libo Kemekem) is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Debub Gondar Zone, Kemekem is bordered on the south by the Reb which separates it from Fogera, on the west by Lake Tana, on the north by the Semien Gondar Zone, and on the east by Ebenat. The administrative center is Addis Zemen; other towns include Amba Meda and Yifag. Rivers in this woreda include the Arno and the Reb, which drain into Lake Tana.

Lesser Angereb

The Lesser Angereb is a river of northern Ethiopia. According to G.W.B. Huntingford, it rises north of Gondar, and flows south east of that city to join the Magech River, which empties into Lake Tana.

Emfraz or Enfraz is an historic town and district in northern Ethiopia. Located in the mountainous area overlooking the northeast shore of Lake Tana in the Semien Gondar Zone of the Amhara Region, it sits at a latitude and longitude of {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:12|15|30|N|37|37|45|E| | |name= }}. Emfranz is located on the all-weather asphalt road which connects Bahir Dar to Gondar.
