Lesser Abay River
Lesser Abay or ግልገል ዓባይ Gǝlgäl Abbay is a river of central Ethiopia. Rising in the mountains of Gojjam, it flows northward to empty into Lake Tana at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:11|48|N|37|7|E|region:ET_type:river|| |primary |name= }}. Tributaries of the Lesser Abay include the Ashar, Jamma, Kelti and the Koger. It was regarded as the true source of the Nile for a long time and the Jesuit priest Pedro Paez visited it in 1618.

Achefer
Achefer was one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. It was named for the historic district of Achefer, which was first mentioned in the 16th century. Part of the Mirab Gojjam Zone, Achefer was bordered on the south by the Agew Awi Zone, on the west by the Semien Gondar Zone, on the north by Lake Tana, on the northeast by Bahir Dar Zuria, and on the southeast by Merawi; the Lesser Abay River defined the woreda's eastern boundary. The woreda included Dek Island.

Narga Selassie
Narga Selassie is a church on the western shores of Dek Island, the largest island of Lake Tana in northern Ethiopia. The name signifies "Trinity of the Rest". "Rest" refers to the place and the shade thereabouts. The church was constructed by Empress Mentewab in the late 18th century, apparently using as construction material for doors and roof a gigantic sycamore fig tree that stood at the centre of a slight elevation, now the centre of the church.

Dek Island
Dek Island (Dek Deset in Amharic) is the biggest island (approximately 16 square kilometers in size) on Lake Tana in Ethiopia. It is administratively included in the Bahir Dar Zuria woreda of the Mirab Gojjam Zone. To the southeast of Dek is the much smaller Daga Island.

Daga Island
Daga Island is located in the southeastern part of Lake Tana in Ethiopia. Southeast of the much larger Dek Island, Daga has a latitude and longitude of {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:11|53|N|37|18|E||| |primary |name= }}. The entire island, consisting of a volcanic cone some 300 feet high, is considered holy and no females, either women or farm animals, are allowed on the island.
