Paasselkä

Paasselkä (earlier Paasivesi) is an oval-shaped lake formed in an eroded impact crater in Southern Savonia, Finland. The lake, which is a part of Orivesi, which is in turn part of the Greater Saimaa, is devoid of islands which makes it different from other lakes in the region. Paasselkä is also unusually deep, 75 m at the deepest point. The Paasselkä impact occurred about 229 million years ago and affected Paleoproterozoic crystalline rocks and some overlying sandstones of the Baltic Shield.

Paasselkä devils

Paasselkä devils are light phenomena sometimes appearing at Lake Paasselkä, Finland and swampy and forested areas nearby the lake. Paasselkä is a lake formed in an impact crater. There is a magnetic anomaly in the centre of the lake. The Paasselkä Devil is usually told to be a ball of light visible in the air above Paasselkä or areas nearby. It is said to move at varying speeds on some occasions and to remain stationary at others. Sometimes there are several balls.

Orivirran saarto

Orivirran saarto is a ruin of a 16th century fortress located in Savonranta, Finland. It is believed to be built some time between 1540 and 1550 and was used until the beginning of the 17th century. Its status was to be an early warning for the St. Olaf's Castle which is still located 50 km to south. It has a four cornered layout with dimensions of 60 m by 20 m build from stones and an outer fortress around 65 m by 75 m. When operational it had 300 to 400 soldiers and 5 to 10 cannons.

Savonranta

Savonranta is a former municipality of Finland. It became part of Savonlinna in the beginning of the year 2009. It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Southern Savonia region. The municipality had a population of 1,263 (2003) and covered an area of 568.59 km² of which 182.55 km² is water. The population density was 3.3 inhabitants per km². The municipality was unilingually Finnish.

Kokkosaari
