Battle of Gangut

The Battle of Gangut took place on 27 July/ 7 August 1714 during the Great Northern War (1700–21), in the waters of Riilahti Bay, north of the Hanko Peninsula, near the site of the modern-day city of Hanko, Finland, between the Swedish Navy and Imperial Russian Navy. It was the first important victory of the Russian fleet in its history.

Hanko Peninsula

The Hanko Peninsula, also spelled Hango, is the southernmost point of mainland Finland. The soil is a sandy moraine, the last tip of the Salpausselkä ridge, and vegetation consists mainly of pine and low shrubs. The peninsula is known for its beautiful archipelago and long sandy beaches. The town of Hanko is situated on the peninsula. The Baltic Sea proper is demarcated by a line from the Hanko Peninsula to the Northwesternmost point of mainland Estonia.

Hanko Northern railway station

Hanko Northern railway station (abbrev. Hkp, Finnish: Hanko-Pohjoisen seisake and Swedish: Hangö Norra) is a railway stop in the port city of Hanko, Finland along the Hanko-Hyvinkää Railroad. The stop is located approximately 1 kilometre north of the terminus, Hanko railway station. The stop is located next to a level crossing on Finnish national road 25 at one end of the Hanko railway yard.

Hanko railway station

Hanko railway station (abbrev. Hnk, Finnish: Hangon rautatieasema, Swedish: Hangö järnvägsstation) is a railway station in the port city of Hanko, Finland along the Hanko–Hyvinkää railway. The station is located approximately 50 kilometres away from Karis railway station and is the terminus for the line. The current station building represents the postfunctionalism of the 1950s. The building was completed in 1949 and it was designed by architect Jarl Ungern.
