Château de Sainte-Mère

The Château de Sainte-Mère is a 13th century ruined castle in the commune of Sainte-Mère in the Gers département of France. The castle was built at the time of the Treaty of Amiens (1279) by the Bishop of Lectoure, Géraud de Monlezun. It defended the frontier of the English possessions. The castle had a rectangular shape, with two towers attached to the north facade. It has been listed since 1977 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.

Gers (river)

The Gers is a 178 km long river in southern France, left tributary of the Garonne. Its source is in the foothills of the Pyrenees, near Lannemezan. It flows north through the départements Hautes-Pyrénées, Gers and Lot-et-Garonne. It flows into the Garonne near Agen. The city Auch lies along the river Gers. It gives its name to the Gers département.

Château de Lacassagne

The Château de Lacassagne is a castle in the commune of Saint-Avit-Frandat in the Gers département of France. Léon Lemartin

Théodore Clovis Edmond Lemartin, known as Léon Lemartin (20 October 1883 Dunes, Tarn-et-Garonne – 18 June 1911, Vincennes) was a pioneer aviator who set a world record on 3 February 1911 at Pau, France when he carried seven passengers in a Blériot XIII Aerobus. He then took eight, eleven and thirteen passengers aloft the following month.
