Georgian National Astrophysical Observatory

Georgian National Astrophysical Observatory (GENAO) currently renamed again as Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory was founded in 1932 on Mount Kanobili, near resort Abastumani. The different places of Mt. Kanobili are located between 1650-1700 m. above sea level. The observatory is located ~250 km far from the capital city Tbilisi of Georgia in the west direction. Telecopes 33 cm. Reflector - mounted in 1932, now is in the Museum of GENAO 40 cm. Zeiss Refractor - mounted in 1936 44 cm.

Vale, Georgia

Vale is a town in southwestern Georgia, 12 km from the city of Akhaltsikhe, Samtskhe-Javakheti region, at the border with Turkey. Its population is 5,031 (2002 Georgia census). Vale is a border crossing point into the Turkish village of Türkgözü, in Posof district. The town is situated on the right bank of the Potskhovi River (a tributary to the Mtkvari), on the slopes of the Lesser Caucasus at 1,000-1,200 m above sea level. Vale is first recorded as a village in the 10th-century.

Zarzma monastery

The Zarzma Monastery of Transfiguration (Georgian: ზარზმის მონასტერი, zarzmis p'erists'valebis monasteri) is a medieval Orthodox Christian monastery located at the village of Zarzma in Samtskhe-Javakheti region, southwest Georgia. The Zarzma monastery is nested in the forested river valley of Kvabliani in the Adigeni municipality, 30 km west of the city of Akhaltsikhe. It is the complex of a series of buildings dominated by a domed church and a belfry, one of the largest in Georgia.

Akhaltsikhe

Akhaltsikhe (Georgian: ახალციხე, literally new castle; also known as Lomisa, Armenian: Ախալցխա, Turkish: Ahıska) is a small city in Georgia's southwestern region of Samtskhe-Javakheti. It is situated on the both banks of a small river Potskhovi, which separates the city to the old city in the north and new in the south. The name of the city translates from Georgian as "new fortress".
