Lykissa is a small village on the mountain of Mount Lykodimo in Messenia, Greece. The settlement was founded during the Greek revolution by Nikos Pantazopoulos. It is part of the municipal unit Petalidi, which is part of the municipality Messini.

Mathia, Messenia

Mathia is a small village located near the top of the Mount Lycodimos. It is part of the municipal unit of Petalidi, in Messenia, Greece, 7 kilometres from the coastline. Under Ottoman occupation, it was referred to as Draga. Pirates had destroyed its original location. In the Greek War of Independence in 1821, the legendary Captain Davis Triantafillopoulos and his heroic men destroyed the Turkish army. His monument stands in the village's entrance, as a reminder to the new generations.

Battle of Navarino

The naval Battle of Navarino was fought on 20 October 1827, during the Greek War of Independence (1821–32), in Navarino Bay, on the west coast of the Peloponnese peninsula, in the Ionian Sea. An Ottoman armada, which, in addition to imperial warships, included squadrons from the eyalets (provinces) of Egypt, Tunis and Algiers, was destroyed by an Allied force of British, French and Russian vessels.
