Monastery of Komnenion

The Monastery of Komnenion is a Byzantine period Greek Orthodox monastery located near Stomio, Larissa, Greece. According to tradition it was founded in the time of Justinian I (r. 527–565), but was rebuilt in its present form by Byzantine emperor Alexios I Komnenos (r. 1081–1118). The full name of monastery is Komnenian Monastery of the Assumption of the Theotokos and of Saint Demetrius (Κομνήνειος Ιερά Μονή Κοιμήσεως Θεοτόκου και Αγίου Δημητρίου).

Spilia, Larissa

Spilia is a settlement of the former department of Nessonas, which is part of the municipality of Tempi in the Larissa regional unit, Thessaly, Greece. It has 324 inhabitants. Spilia is built on Mount Kissavos at 850 meter altitude, 30 km from Larissa. The people of Spilia are engaged in agriculture, farming and tourism. Southwest of the settlement, has identified many vaulted Mycenaean tombs.

Sotiritsa

Sotiritsa is a village in the municipality of Agia, Larissa in the Larissa regional unit in Greece. The old name of Sotiritsa is "Kapista". This name indicates the existence of a church in the area and as we can judge from the name the church must have been dedicated to Jesus Christ the Savior sotiras Christos. There is also another small meta-Byzantine church further north on the flat part of Ossa Mountain, that is dedicated to Christ Savior.

Pineios (Thessaly)

The Pineiós (Greek: Πηνειός, also Peneus) is a river in Thessaly, Greece. The river is named after the god Peneus. During the later Middle Ages, it was also known as the Salamvrias or Salavrias (Σαλαβριάς). It flows from the Pindus mountains and empties into the Aegean Sea, northeast of Vale of Tempe, near Stomio. It creates a large delta, well known for its beauty and for many animal species, protected by international environmental treaties. Its total length is 185 km.
