Sami (ancient city)

Sami, also referred to as Samia, Arini, or Makistos was a city in Ancient Greece. It was located in the Elis region, in western Peloponnese. The archaeological site consists of the remains of Sami's fortified citadel which dates to the Archaic period. Temple of Hera, Olympia

The Temple of Hera (also known as Heraion) is an ancient Doric Greek temple at Olympia, Greece. The Temple of Hera was destroyed by an earthquake in the early 4th century AD, and never rebuilt. In modern times, the temple is the location where the torch of the Olympic flame is lit, by focusing the rays of the sun. The temple was dedicated to Hera, the wife of Zeus and one of the most important female deities in Greek religion.
