Morolica

Morolica is a municipality in the Honduran department of Choluteca. Originally founded in the late 19th century, Morolica was destroyed by flooding associated with Hurricane Mitch in October 1998. The current Morolica, also known as New Morolica, is located in a valley some five kilometers from the original site. The current mayor is Ever Gomez of the liberal party.

Duyure

Duyure is a municipality located in the Honduran department of Choluteca. The municipality borders Nicaragua to the east, the department of El Paraíso to the north, the municipality of Morolica to the west, and the municipality of San Marcos de Colón to the south. The Choluteca River runs along the northern and western limits of the municipality. The town center is located 32 kilometers North of the city of San Marcos de Colón via a dirt road connected to the Pan-American Highway.

Madriz Department

Madriz is a department in Nicaragua. It covers an area of 1,602 km² and has a population of 133,300 (2005 census). The capital is Somoto. Madriz was created from Nueva Segovia department in August 1936, and named after José Madriz.

Somoto, Madriz

Somoto, meaning The Valley of Geese, is a town located in the hills of northern Nicaragua around 20 km south-west of Ocotal, and is in the department of Madriz. It was founded as a town in 1867, and since 1936, has been the capital of Madriz. Somoto is also home to the Somoto Canyon, a relatively big tourist attraction in Nicaragua. Somoto has a total population of approximately 40,000 with 15,000 people living in the urban area and 25,000 in 48 nearby communities.
