Þjórsá

Þjórsá is Iceland's longest river at 230 kilometers. It is in the southern region of the island. Þjórsá is a glacier river has its source on the glacier Hofsjökull. It flows out through narrow gorges in the highlands of Iceland. Further downstream, another river, the Tungnaá, flows into it, before it enters the lowlands. There it passes the valley of Þjórsárdalur (Thjorsardalur) where the historical farm of Stöng is located.

MV Vikartindur

MV Vikartindur was a German registered 8,633 ton container ship that became stranded on a beach on the south coast of Iceland on March 5, 1997 while en route from Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Isles, to Reykjavík. She suffered engine failure at 1200 in stormy conditions and, although able to restart her main engine, she was not able to generate enough power to prevent the gale force winds from blowing her towards shore.

Selfoss (town)

Selfoss is a town in southern Iceland on the banks of Ölfusá river. It is part, and seat, of the municipality Árborg. The Ring Road runs through the town on its way between Hveragerði and Hella. It is a centre of commerce and small industries of 6,512 inhabitants (2011), which makes it the largest residential area in South Iceland.

Árborg

Sveitarfélagið Árborg is the biggest municipality in southern Iceland. It was formed in 1998. The population of Árborg was 7,827 (January 2011). The biggest town in the municipality is Selfoss, with a population of 6,512. Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri are two communities on the southern coast and Sandvíkurhreppur is a rural administrative region between those three other towns. It is also the 8th most pop. city in Iceland
