Gayo Lues Regency

Gayo Lues Regency is a regency in the Aceh province of Indonesia. Its capital is Blangkejeren. The regency covers an area of 5,719 square kilometres and according to the 2000 census had a population of 60,800 people. 90% of the inhabitants make their living from farming. Products include chili peppers, tobacco, coffee, and lemongrass, fish, rice, candle nut, pataculi, coconut, vanilla, kapok, chocolate, sugarcane, ginger, clove, casslevera, turmeric, and sugar palm.

First Sumatran expedition

The First Sumatran expedition, which featured the Battle of Quallah Battoo, or Kuala Batee in 1832, was a punitive expedition by the United States Navy against the village of Kuala Batee, presently a subdistrict in Southwest Aceh Regency. The reprisal was in response to the massacre of the crew of the merchantman Friendship a year earlier. The frigate USS Potomac and its crew defeated the local Raja's forces and bombed the settlement.
