Gayo Lues Regency
Gayo Lues Regency is a regency in the Aceh province of Indonesia. Its capital is Blangkejeren. The regency covers an area of 5,719 square kilometres and according to the 2000 census had a population of 60,800 people. 90% of the inhabitants make their living from farming. First Sumatran expedition
The First Sumatran expedition, which featured the Battle of Quallah Battoo, or Kuala Batee in 1832, was a punitive expedition by the United States Navy against the village of Kuala Batee, presently a subdistrict in Southwest Aceh Regency. The reprisal was in response to the massacre of the crew of the merchantman Friendship a year earlier. The frigate USS Potomac and its crew defeated the local Raja's forces and bombed the settlement.
