Anyer

Anyer (also Anjer) is a town in Banten, formerly West Java, Indonesia, fifteen kilometres south of Merak. It is home of a forty metre lighthouse built by King Willem III of the Netherlands in 1885 as a memorial for the townspeople killed by the eruption of Krakatau, which destroyed the town. It is also the starting point of the Great Post Road, built by the Dutch in the nineteenth century, which ran 1,000 kilometres to the eastern tip of Java.

Merak, Banten

Merak is a city and seaport in Cilegon, Banten, on the northwestern tip of Java, Indonesia. The port and town are named after the Green Peafowl, which once lived in the region, but is now very rare. The port is connected to Jakarta via the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road.

Sunda Strait Bridge

The Sunda Strait Bridge (Indonesian: Jembatan Selat Sunda, JSS, sometimes referred to in English-language reports as the SSB) is a planned road and railway megaproject between the two Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Java. In October 2007, after years of discussion and planning, the Indonesian government gave the initial go-ahead for a project which includes several of the world’s longest suspension bridges, across the 27 km Sunda Strait.

Sangiang

Sangiang is an island midway in the Sunda Strait between the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Java. Administratively it is a part of Banten province of western Java. One current design for the ambitious Sunda Strait Bridge allows for part of the bridge to be built crossing the island. The colonial Dutch called the island Dwars-in-den-weg ('Thwart-the-Way'; 'In the Way').

Sunda Strait

The Sunda Strait is the strait between the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra. It connects the Java Sea to the Indian Ocean. The name comes from the Indonesian term Pasundan, meaning "West Java. It also comes from the name of the Sundanese people the native people of west Java with the Javanese people being found mostly in Central and East Java."
