Imogiri

Imogiri (also Imagiri) is a royal graveyard complex in Yogyakarta, in south-central Java, Indonesia, as well as a modern village located near the graveyard in Bantul Regency. Imogiri is a traditional resting place for the royalty of central Java, including many rulers of the Sultanate of Mataram and of the current houses of Surakarta and Yogyakarta Sultanate. The name Imagiri is derived from Sanskrit Himagiri, which means 'mountain of snow'. The latter is another name for Himalaya.

Kota Gede

Kota Gede also known as Pasar Gede is an area in the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta. One of the old capitals of Mataram, the area now has an archaeological site which contains the remains of the kraton (palace), the royal cemetery, and royal mosque of Mataram, dated from the late 16th and early 17th centuries. The honorable name of this location in a higher and more respectful level of Javanese language (Kromo) is Pasar Gede.

May 2006 Java earthquake

The May 2006 Java earthquake occurred at 05:54 local time on 27 May 2006, in the Indian Ocean around 25 km south-southwest of the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta, near Galur, on the southern side of the island of Java, 10 km below the seabed, with a magnitude of 6.2, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Two aftershocks, measured at 4.8 and 4.6, occurred between 4 and 6 hours later.
