Kishlak or qishlaq is a rural settlement of semi-nomadic Turkic peoples of Central Asia and Azerbaijan. The meaning of the term is "wintering place" in Turkic languages (derives from Turkic qış - winter). Traditionally a clay/mud fence (dewal, duval) surrounds a kishlak.
