Karrada

Karrada is a major affluent district of the city Baghdad, Iraq. It is of a mixed population but has a Shia majority. There are also Christians. It is considered one of the most integrated areas of the city since its residences in general have roots in the area. Karrada as a land is part of a peninsula created by the Tigris river significant turn, which gives this part of the city a remarkable character. The area has the river running on both sides.

It operates under the oversight of the Iraq Securities Commission, an independent commission modeled after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. June Reed is an American adviser to the stock exchange.

Republican Palace

The Republican Palace is a palace in Baghdad, Iraq, constructed on the orders of King Faisal II. It was Saddam Hussein's preferred place to meet visiting heads of state. The United States spared the palace during its shock and awe raid during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, in the belief that it might hold valuable documents. The Green Zone developed around it.

Firdos Square

Firdaus Square, or Firdos Square, is a public open space in Baghdad, Iraq. It is named after the Arabic word Firdows, which literally means "paradise". It is the location of two of the best-known hotels in Baghdad, the Palestine Hotel and the Sheraton Ishtar. The square was the site of the statue of Saddam Hussein that was torn down by U.S. coalition forces in a widely-televised event during the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Ishtar Sheraton Hotel

The Ishtar Sheraton Hotelis a hotel in Baghdad, Iraq located on Firdos Square. It is the tallest building in Baghdad, and the tallest structure in Iraq after the Baghdad Tower. Despite its name, the hotel has had nothing to do with the Sheraton Hotel chain for over twenty years. The chain severed their management contract with the Iraqi Government, which built the property, during the 1991 Gulf War and the name has been used without permission ever since.
