Hindiya

Al-Hindiya or Hindiya is a city in Iraq on the Euphrates River. Nouri al Maliki went to school there in his younger days. Al-Hindiya is located in the Kerbala Governorate. The city used to be known as Tuwairij, which gives name to the "Tuwairij run" that takes place here every year as part of the Mourning of Muharram on the Day of Ashura.

Etemenanki

Etemenanki was the name of a ziggurat dedicated to Marduk in the city of Babylon of the 6th century BCE Neo-Babylonian dynasty. Originally seven stories in height, little remains of it now except ruins.

Esagila

The Ésagila, a Sumerian name signifying "É (temple) whose top is lofty", was a temple dedicated to Marduk, the protector god of Babylon. It lay south of the ziggurat Etemenanki. In this temple was the cult image inhabited by Marduk, surrounded by cult images of the cities that had fallen under the hegemony of the Babylonian Empire from the 18th century BC; there was also a little lake which was named Abzu by the Babylonian priests.

Ishtar Gate

The Ishtar Gate was the eighth gate to the inner city of Babylon. It was constructed in about 575 BC by order of King Nebuchadnezzar II on the north side of the city.

Al Abbas Mosque

The Al-‘Abbās Mosque or Masjid al-‘Abbās is the mausoleum of ‘Abbās ibn ‘Alī, located across from the Imām Husayn Mosque in Karbalā, Iraq. ‘Abbās was the brother of Hasan and Husayn, and was the flag-bearer for Husayn in the Battle of Karbalā. The distance between the shrines of ‘Abbās and Husayn, are the same as the distance between the hills of Al-Safa and Al-Marwah. Environmental effects over the years have caused the Euphrates river to change direction.
