Hevel Eilot Regional Council

Hevel Eilot Regional Council is a regional council in the South District of Israel, near the city of Eilat. It is the southernmost regional council in Israel. Only about 3,300 people live in the council in twelve communities. Its area is about 2.2 million dunams. The major city of the region, Eilat, governs itself as a city council and is not included in the regional council.

Ovda Airport

Ovda Airport is a military and civilian airport in Israel, located in the south of the country, about 60 km north of the city of Eilat. It is the country's second international airport. Ovda was originally built as a military airport in 1980 following Israel's withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula as part of the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty because the Israeli Air Force needed alternative airfields to its Sinai bases.

Ovda (Israel)

Ovda is the name of a region in the southern Negev desert, directly north of Eilat. The name derives from the Hebrew word uvda (meaning fact), and is simply an incorrect transliteration of the word commonly used in English today. The region was captured during Operation Uvda in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, when the Israel Defense Forces entered the area with the stated aim of establishing 'facts on the ground', hence the name.

Shaharut

Shaharut is a communal settlement 40 kilometers north of Eilat, and 6 kilometers west of Yotvata on a ridge above the Arava Valley in the far south of Israel. It is the only settlement in the area that is not in the valley itself. It belongs to the Hevel Eilot Regional Council. It was founded in 1985 and is named after the nearby Shaharut Mountain. As of 2010, twenty eight families live there amounting to 120 people. The word "Shaharut" means "youth", as in Ecclesiastes chapter 11.

Yotvata Airfield

Yotvata Airfield is a small desert airfield in south Israel 40 km north of Eilat adjacent to Kibbutz Yotvata. The runway is in a state of disrepair. It is unused except for agricultural flights and is listed as the contingency airport for nearby Eilat Airport and Ovda International Airport.
