Interesting facts about this location

Norchia

Norchia is an ancient Etruscan city with an adjacent necropolis, near Vetralla in Italy. Some sources identify it with the ancient Etruscan town known as Orclae, whose name is reported in medieval sources. The site is along the via Clodia, and is not far from the more well known Etruscan town of Tarquinia. The locale was already inhabited in the Bronze Age, and the city and its adjoining necropolis grew with the arrival of the Etruscans.

Tomb of Orcus

The Tomb of Orcus, sometimes called the Tomb of Murina (Italian: Tomba dei Murina), is a 4th century BC Etruscan hypogeum (burial chamber) in Tarquinia, Italy. Discovered in 1868, it displays Hellenistic influences in its remarkable murals, which include the portrait of Velia Velcha, an Etruscan noblewoman, and the only known pictorial representation of the demon Tuchulcha. In general, the murals are noted for their depiction of death, evil, and unhappiness.

San Giovenale

For the artpiece, see San Giovenale Triptych. San Giovenale is the modern name of the location of an ancient Etruscan settlement close to the modern village of Blera, Italy. It was excavated by the Swedish Institute at Rome in the 1950s and 1960s with King Gustaf VI Adolf as one of the participating archaeologists.

Tomb of the Leopards

The Tomb of the Leopards (Italian Tomba dei Leopardi) is an Etruscan burial chamber so called for the confronted leopards painted above a banquet scene. The tomb is located within the Monterozzi necropolis and dates to around 480–450 BC. The painting is one of the best-preserved murals of Tarquinia, and is known for "its lively coloring, and its animated depictions rich with gestures.

Tomba della Fustigazione

Tomba della Fustigazione, or "Tomb of Flogging" in English, is an Etruscan burial site from the Monterozzi Necropolis near the ancient city of Tarquinia, in central Italy. The site is named after its eroticized depictions of floggings.
