Valchiavenna

The Valchiavenna is an alpine region located to the north of Lake Como in the northern Italian province of Sondrio. It is traversed by the rivers Mera and Liro, and can be divided into three parts which branch from the confluence of these rivers near Chiavenna, the principal town of the region.

Moesa

The Moesa is a 47 km river, a tributary of the Ticino, which flows through the Swiss cantons of Graubünden and Ticino. It rises in Val Vignun near the San Bernardino Pass and descends, along with the A13 motorway, through the Val Mesolcina towards Roveredo, where it receives the rivers Calancasca and Traversagna. Near Arbedo-Castione the Moesa flows into the Ticino. The Moesa is a popular river for kayaking.

Mera (river)

The Mera (Maira in Switzerland) is a river in Switzerland and Italy. Its source is near the Maloja Pass, in Graubünden, Switzerland. It flows west through the Val Bregaglia (Bergell) and crosses the Italian border near Soglio. It is joined by the Acquafraggia close to Piuro, and then turns south at Chiavenna, just before it receives the river Liro from the right at Prata Camportaccio. The Mera ends in Lake Como, near Sorico in the Province of Como.
