Kamikita, Aomori

Kamikita, Aomori was a town located in Kamakita District in central Aomori Prefecture, Japan. On March 31, 2005 Kamikita was merged into the neighboring town of Tōhoku, and thus no longer exists as an independent municipality. Kamikita Village was founded in 1889 through the merger of Ōura, Shingo and Shindate Villages. On September 1, 1958 it was elevated to town status.

Hakkōda Tunnel

The Hakkōda Tunnel is a 26.445-kilometre railway tunnel in located in central Aomori Prefecture, in northern Japan. It passes through the Hakkōda mountain range and links the village of Tenmabayashi with the city of Aomori. The Hakkōda Tunnel is part of the northern extension of the Tōhoku Shinkansen, and is located between the stations of Shichinohe-Towada and Shin Aomori. Preliminary work on the tunnel began in August 1998, with ground broken in June 1999.

Hakkōda Mountains incident

The Hakkōda Mountains incident occurred on January 23, 1902, when a large group of Japanese soldiers on a training exercise became trapped on a mountain range, causing many of them to die. Several soldiers in the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment became trapped in a blizzard while crossing the Hakkōda Mountains from Aomori City in a military training exercise. The exercise was meant to gather experience in dealing with winter weather.

Aomori Akenohoshi Junior College

Aomori Akenohoshi Junior College is a 2-year private women's junior college in Aomori, Japan. The university was established in 1963, and is descended from an art school established in 1937. The school is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and was established by members of the Canadian Congregation of Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. Prominent students include Mari Motohashi, Olympic curler.

Hakkōda Ropeway

The Hakkōda Ropeway is the name of a Japanese aerial lift line, as well as its operator. Opened in 1968, the line climbs Mount Tamoyachi in the Hakkōda Mountains in Aomori, Aomori. It transports skiers and rime spectators in winter, and hikers in other seasons.
