Interesting facts about this location

Magome-juku

Magome-juku was the forty-third of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō, an ancient road that connected Kyoto and Edo during the Edo period. It was also the last of eleven stations along the Kisoji, which was the precursor to a part of the Nakasendō, running through the Kiso Valley. This well-preserved section of the old route is in the present-day city of Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

Ochiai-juku

was the forty-fourth of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō. It is located in the present-day city of Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The honjin and the sub-honjin, as well as some old street lights, remain from the Edo period. The Honjin were the main rest areas in old post towns and very few remain today. There are ten hills that must be traversed to get to Ochiai-juku from the preceding post town of Magome-juku.

Yamaguchi, Nagano

Yamaguchi, Nagano was a village located in Kiso District, Nagano, Japan. On February 13, 2005 Yamaguchi, along the towns of Fukuoka, Sakashita and Tsukechi, the villages of Hirukawa, Kashimo and Kawaue, all from Ena District, Gifu, was merged into the expanded city of Nakatsugawa in Gifu Prefecture and no longer exists as an independent municipality. As of 2003, the village had an estimated population of 2052 and a population density of 83.18 persons per km². The total area was 24.67 km².

Kiso Valley

The Kiso Valley is a geographical area that centers on the valley of the upper portions of the Kiso River in the southwestern part of Nagano Prefecture in Japan. It is a v-shaped valley with length of approximately 60 km (36 mi) that follows the river as it flows from north by northwest to south by southwest into Gifu Prefecture.
