Hishikari, Kagoshima

Hishikari, Kagoshima was a town located in Isa District, Kagoshima, Japan. As of April 2007, the town had a population of 9,603 and the density of 96.54 persons per km². The total area was 100.47 km². Hishikari mine is the largest gold mine in Japan. A planned merger of municipalities was implemented on November 1, 2008; Hishikari was merged with the city of Ōkuchi to form the new city of Isa. Isa District was dissolved as a result of this merger.

Kamō, Kagoshima

Kamō, Kagoshima was a town located in Aira District, Kagoshima, Japan. As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 7,311 and the density of 89.94 persons per km². The total area was 81.29 km². Kamō is home to the oldest Camphor laurel tree in Japan. The tree is approximately 1500 years old, and stretches 34m across, and 30m high. It was heavily damaged in typhoons in 1997 and 2004. A large hollow, with a diameter of 4.5m, exists inside the tree.

Ōkuchi, Kagoshima

Ōkuchi, Kagoshima was a city located in Kagoshima, Japan. It is now part of the city of Isa. Ōkuchi is the northernmost city on the mainland part of Kagoshima Prefecture. Only the island portion of Nagashima extends further north. Ōkuchi is a mountainous area that borders on Kumamoto Prefecture and Miyazaki Prefecture. Part of the southern border of the city is the Sendai River and the artificial lake formed from the Tsuruta dam.

Aira, Kagoshima (town)

Aira, Kagoshima was a town located in Aira District, in Kagoshima, Japan. It was located west of Kajiki and north of Kagoshima. A planned merger of municipalities will be implemented on March 23, 2010. The Aira District towns of Aira, Kajiki, and Kamō merged to form the new city of Aira. Aira District will be left with one municipality. As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 44,029 and the density of 429.47 persons per km². The total area was 102.52 km .
