The International Centre for Synchrotron-Light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) is an independent laboratory formally created under the auspices of UNESCO on 30 May 2002. King Talal Dam

The King Talal Dam is a large dam in the hills of northern Jordan, across the Zarqa River. The King Talal dam was started in 1971, with the original construction being completed in 1977. In 1984, to meet the country's increased water demands, work to raise the dam further was begun, a project that was completed in 1988 at a cost of $90 million. The dam is named after King Talal of Jordan, a monarch who briefly reigned from July 20, 1951 to August 11, 1952.

Baqa'a

The Baqa'a refugee camp, first created in 1968, lies 20 km north of the Jordanian capital Amman, and is home to around 80,100 Palestinians who are registered as such with the United Nations, making it the largest camp in Jordan. Baqa'a was one of six camps set up in Jordan in 1968 to house the Palestinians who left the West Bank and Gaza Strip during the 1967 Arab Israeli war. Between June 1967 and February 1968, residents were housed in temporary camps in the Jordan valley.

Zarqa River

The Zarqa River is the second largest tributary of the lower Jordan River, after the Yarmouk River. It is the third largest river in the region by annual discharge, and its watershed encompasses the most densely populated areas east of the Jordan River. It rises in springs near Amman, and flows through a deep and broad valley (which is identified with the biblical Jabbok River) into the Jordan, at an elevation 1,090 meters lower.

Penuel

Penuel (Hebrew פְּנוּאֵל), also known as the "face of God", is a place not far from Succoth, on the east of the Jordan River and north of the river Jabbok. It is also called "Peniel" by Jacob, meaning 'face of God', "It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared. " Here Jacob wrestled "with a man" "till the break of day. " A town was afterward built there . The men of this place refused to give bread to Gideon and his 300 men when they were in pursuit of the Midianites .
