Umm Qais

Umm Qais is a town in northern Jordan near the site of the ancient town of Gadara. It is situated in the extreme north-west of the country, where the borders of Jordan, Israel and Syria meet, perched on a hilltop (378 metres above sea level), overlooking the sea of Tiberias, the Golan heights and the Yarmuk gorge. Umm Qais is in Jordan's Irbid Governorate and belongs to the Bani Kinanah Department.

Hamat Gader

Hamat Gader is a site in the Yarmouk River valley, near the Sea of Galilee in the Golan Heights. The name means "hot springs of Gadara", referring to the several mineral springs with temperatures up to 50°C. Gadara, modern Umm Qais in Jordan, is 4 kilometres away. Hamat Gader is located close to the junction of the boundary between the Israeli-occupied portion of the Golan Heights and Jordan.

Yarmouk River

The Yarmouk River is the largest tributary of the Jordan River. It drains much of the Hauran Plateau. It is one of three main tributaries which enter the Jordan between the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. To the south, are the Jabbok/Zarqa and the Arnon/Wadi Mujib) rivers. The Yarmouk forms the border between Israel and Jordan close to the Jordan Valley and between Syria and Jordan further upstream. It is the southern boundary of the Golan Heights.
