Marka refugee camp

The Marka refugee camp is one of six "emergency" camps erected in 1968 to shelter 15,000 Palestinian refugees and displaced persons who left the West Bank and the Gaza Strip as a result of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. Located ten kilometers northeast of Amman in Jordan, it is known locally as Hittin (حطين) or Schneller and houses 44,879 UNRWA registered refugees and over 17,500 displaced persons.

Zarqa

Az-Zarqāʔ is a city in Jordan located to the northeast of Amman. Zarqa is the capital of Zarqa Governorate (Arabic محافظة الزرقاء Muħāfazat az-Zarqā). Its name means "the blue one".

Amman Civil Airport

Amman Civil Airport at Marka, is a one-terminal airport situated in East Amman, Jordan. It was the home hub of Royal Jordanian Airlines, the national flag carrier, until Queen Alia International Airport was opened in 1983. It mainly serves now as a regional airport servicing domestic and nearby international routes, as well as charter and private VIP flights. It is home to airlines such as Royal Wings, Jordan Aviation, and Arab Wings. Amman Airport is operational 24 hours a day.

Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company

Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company runs the only oil refinery plant in Jordan. It was established in 1956, and construction of the oil refinery plant started in 1957. Currently, the company covers all the domestic needs of oil products, and commonly exports its products to other countries.

Dawson's Field hijackings

In the Dawson's Field hijackings (September 6, 1970), four jet aircraft bound for New York City and one for London were hijacked by members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. By the end of the incident, one hijacker had been killed and one injury reported. TWA Flight 741 from Frankfurt am Main and Swissair Flight 100 from Zürich-Kloten Airport landed at Dawson's Field, a remote desert airstrip near Zarka, Jordan, formerly used as a British Royal Air Force base.
